Faculty Positions Available at the University of New Mexico

The Department of Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is seeking applicants for two open-rank faculty positions (hiring level commensurate with experience). We seek innovative and collaborative researchers and educators in broad areas of chemical engineering. Applications are particularly encouraged in energy-, bio- and materials-related areas.

Tracing the Origins of Pi

In a recent article, published on Pi Day, Gareth Ffowc Roberts, emeritus professor of Education at Bangor University, discusses how Welsh mathematician William Jones gave the world "an agreed symbol for the number." According to the author, "We typically think of this number as being about 3.14, but Jones rightly suspected that the digits after its decimal point were infinite and non-repeating. This meant it could never be 'expressed in numbers', as he put it.

Mixing Science and Marketing

Most academic researchers aren’t familiar with marketing, says Peter Fiske, director of the Water-Energy Resilience Research Institute at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California.
